Roland FP-10 Digital Piano — Authentic Hammer Action in a Compact 88-Key Body

The Roland FP-10 is the entry-level model in Roland's renowned FP portable piano series, designed for players who want the touch and tone of a fine acoustic piano without the footprint. Built around an 88-note PHA-4 Standard keyboard with escapement and ivory-feel keys, this digital piano delivers the responsive feel that Roland reserves for its higher-tier instruments. This model is the right choice for beginners, returning players, and professionals who need a slim, lightweight second piano for travel or studio work.

What Sets the FP-10 Apart in the Entry-Level Tier

Two details make the FP-10 stand out from other budget 88-key pianos. First, the PHA-4 Standard action uses staggered hammer weights — heavier in the bass, lighter in the treble — and includes Roland's escapement mechanism, which lets players re-trigger notes quickly for repeated passages and trills. Second, the white keys are finished with a moisture-absorbing material that recreates the natural texture of real ivory, giving fingers a confident grip during long practice sessions.

Keyboard Action and Touch Response — Player-Focused Feel

A digital piano lives or dies by its keybed, and this model inherits the same action architecture found in Roland's more expensive portable pianos. Escapement, graded hammer weight, and ivory-feel surfaces combine to mimic the mechanical behavior of an acoustic instrument, which is critical for building proper finger strength and dynamic control.

• Keys: 88 — full concert range for classical repertoire and graded learning.
• Keyboard Type: Plastic, Hammer-action (PHA-4 Standard) with escapement and moisture-absorbing ivory-feel white keys.
• The five touch sensitivity types, plus a fixed option, are easily set to match your playing style using the function button.

Sound Engine and Polyphony — Modeling, Not Sampling

The SuperNATURAL Piano engine models piano tone in real time rather than playing back recorded samples, which means subtle interactions between notes — string resonance, damper resonance, and key-off behavior — respond dynamically to how the player actually plays. Ninety-six voices of polyphony leave plenty of headroom for sustained pedal work and layered Dual-mode sounds.

• Sound Engine: SuperNATURAL Piano modeling — flagship-derived technology originally introduced on Roland's V-Piano.
• Max. Polyphony: 96 voices — enough for complex pedaled passages without dropped notes.
• In total, 36 tones are available, including pianos, electric pianos, organs, strings, and harpsichord, with 15 accessible from the front panel and all 36 via the Roland Piano App.

Connectivity, Speakers, and Physical Footprint — Built for Real Rooms

The FP-10 is the most compact 88-note digital piano in its class, weighing just 12.6 kg with the music rest detached and measuring 1,284 mm wide × 258 mm deep × 140 mm high. Bluetooth MIDI and USB MIDI open the door to apps like GarageBand, Roland Piano App, and learning platforms, while the built-in speakers and headphone output cover both open-air practice and silent late-night sessions.

• Speakers: 2 × 12 cm (4-3/4 in) driven by a 6 W × 2 amplifier — onboard monitoring without external gear.
• Bluetooth: MIDI Ver 4.0 — wireless connection to phones, tablets, and computers.
• Connect the optional DP-10 damper pedal to the pedal input for expressive half-pedaling.
• Ports: USB Type B computer port, USB Type A update port, phones jack, DC In.

Who the Roland FP-10 Is For

FP-10 is built for the beginner who wants a keyboard that will not hold them back as technique develops, and for the experienced player who needs a portable second instrument that still feels serious under the fingers. It is the right choice for apartment dwellers who need a slim, quiet practice piano, for piano teachers who want Twin Piano mode for side-by-side lessons, and for songwriters and producers who want a lightweight 88-note MIDI controller with Bluetooth and a built-in metronome. The YRS-23 is also the right choice for gigging professionals who need a road-worthy beater keyboard with flagship-grade key action at an accessible price.

Roland and the FP Piano Series

Roland's FP series has defined how a portable digital piano should sound and feel, with each generation refining the balance between authentic acoustic response and modern digital convenience. The FP-10 sits at the entry point of that lineage, bringing the same PHA-4 keyboard architecture and SuperNATURAL Piano engine found in higher-tier FP models to a more accessible price. For players who want a genuine Roland portable piano experience without stepping up to the FP-30X or FP-60X, this model is the natural starting point.
